Let’s dive into the best ways to experience Halloween at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios—with expert tips, custom options, and just the right amount of spooky.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (Walt Disney World)

This beloved after-hours event turns Magic Kingdom into a festive, family-friendly Halloween wonderland. Here’s how to make the most of it:

🎟️ Party Timing Tips

  • Even if you’re not attending the party, check the schedule—Magic Kingdom closes early (typically 6:00 p.m.) on party nights. It’s a great day to enjoy another park.
  • If you are attending, your party ticket lets you enter Magic Kingdom starting at 4:00 p.m.—use that extra time to get in a few rides or a special meal before the party begins.

🎭 Costumes, Candy & Characters

  • Costumes are encouraged—for both kids and adults!
  • Trick-or-treating is available throughout the park. You’ll receive a bag, but many guests bring their own. All candy is individually wrapped, and allergy-friendly treat stations are clearly marked.
  • Meet rare characters—like classic Disney villains—only available during the party.
  • Enjoy exclusive shows, fireworks, and themed dance parties for all ages.

🎢 Ride Access & Wait Times

  • Most major attractions remain open during the event.
  • Lightning Lane Multi Pass (formerly Genie+) is not available during the party.
  • Expect shorter wait times (5–10 minutes for many attractions).
  • Between 6:00–7:00 p.m., wait times may not appear in the app, but attractions are open for guests already inside.

🛍️ Seasonal Shopping & Special Services

  • Grab exclusive Halloween-themed merchandise at shops like the Emporium and Star Traders—these can sell out quickly.
  • American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation is offered at select shows. Additional interpretation may be requested with two weeks' notice by emailing Disney Guest Services.

👻 Halloween Horror Nights (Universal Studios Orlando)

If you’re a fan of frights, Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) is the ultimate adult and teen-friendly Halloween experience.

🎃 Haunted Houses & Scare Zones

  • Each house has a unique theme—from slasher villains to haunted dollhouses.
  • Walkthrough scare zones fill the park with creepy surprises and live actors.
  • No costumes or masks are allowed for guests.

🎟️ Premium Extras

  • RIP Tour: VIP guided experience with front-of-line access to each haunted house.
  • Behind the Screams Tour: Daytime, lights-on tour of 3–6 houses—perfect for horror fans who want to see the artistry up close.
  • NEW: Premium Scream Night (August 28 only)
    • All the regular HHN thrills, plus:
      • Shorter wait times
      • Costumes allowed (no masks)
      • Free parking
      • All-you-can-eat food and drinks
      • Souvenir lanyard
